Year 8 → Year 9 Diagnostic Assessment
A focused initial assessment designed to identify a learner’s current mathematical strengths, areas for development and readiness for Year 9.
Based on the UK / English curriculum and suitable for learners attending British-curriculum schools in the UAE.
What the consultation will cover
How the initial consultation works
- Brief discussion with the parent and learner.
- Review of current school year, curriculum and any areas of concern.
- Completion of a Year 8 → Year 9 maths diagnostic assessment.
- Review of strengths and learning gaps.
- Recommendation of an appropriate tuition or revision programme.
About the assessment
The assessment is diagnostic rather than a formal school examination. Its purpose is to find the learner’s current starting point and determine what should be taught next.
- Approximate assessment time: 45–60 minutes
- Suitable for a learner moving from Year 8 into Year 9

Suitable for students studying in the UAE
- Suggested time: 60 minutes.
- Complete Sections A and B without a calculator where possible.
- A calculator may be used for Section C.
- Show working where appropriate.
- The assessment is diagnostic and is intended to identify areas for Year 9 preparation.
